Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody wants Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul to open the innings for the franchise in the upcoming season. LSG has openers like Devdutt Padikkal, Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers, and KL Rahul in the setup.
Rahul had not opened the innings in the previous season and had scored 274 runs in nine matches before he was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Rahul played in the first Test match against England at Hyderabad but was ruled out of the rest of the series due to a quadriceps injury. Rahul then traveled to London to take expert advice on his injury.
Rahul has scored 4163 runs in 118 IPL matches at an average of 46.78 and a strike rate of 134.42.
Tom Moody said on Star Sports show Game Plan, “I don’t think the franchise will be looking too much at accommodating, any player for that matter, around where they are best suited so they position themselves for selection outside of the IPL.”
“KL Rahul is best suited in that particular team at the top of the order. So I can’t see that changing just on the basis that it may well improve his chances for a World Cup selection,” the former Australia all-rounder added.
Meanwhile, the former SRH head coach added that Rahul can adapt to different batting roles while playing for the national team.
“I am sure if he is scoring a high volume of runs at the top of the order, he has shown over time that he is very adaptable and he can move up and down the order seamlessly,” Moody said.
LSG has qualified for the playoff in their first two years in the IPL and Moody said the franchise will be looking to go all the way in the lucrative tournament.
“I am sure if he is scoring a high volume of runs at the top of the order, he has shown over time that he is very adaptable and he can move up and down the order seamlessly,” Moody said.
Lucknow Super Giants will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on March 24.
