Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s batter Mahipal Lomror admitted they made mistakes in countering Mayank Yadav in their 28-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Yadav returned with match-winning figures of 3-14 as the gun fast bowler played a key role in skittling Royal Challengers Bengaluru at 153 after LSG posted 181.
The 21-year-old accounted for Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar. Maxwell and Patidar perished while trying to take the attack against Yadav whereas the fast bowler breached Green’s defense.
Lomror revealed that the team’s plan was to go use Yadav’s pace against him but they could not execute it. The left-hander scored a fine cameo of 33 runs off just 13 balls but it was not enough for RCB.
“I faced Mayank in local cricket a couple of times. So I knew what he brings to the table, and about his bowling a little bit. Our plan was like simple.”
“To use his pace against him. It’s a small ground, as we all know, and ball flies here. So our overall plan was just to use his pace and not to go against it.”
“But there were some mistakes which happened. And yeah, I think we need to be very clear. About what we gonna do if if someone is bowling 150 clicks like every ball is around 150 clicks. So, yeah, we need to be clear in our heads. And we just need to know what we are gonna do if, like what are our options and what we’re gonna do against him,” said Lomror in the post-match press conference.
The southpaw said he is really happy for Mayank Yadav, who has delivered the goods for LSG in the last two matches.
“He’s bowling really well. And I’m happy for him. He’s doing really good. Wish him luck,” said Lomror.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
