Former England captain Eoin Morgan has compared Nicholas Pooran with Heinrich Klaasen. Pooran and Klaasen are currently two of the best T20 batters in the world. The left-hander scored 40 runs off just 21 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
Pooran’s blistering knock, which had one four and five maximums, helped Lucknow Super Giants post 181 runs on the board and LSG went on to win by 28 runs. In the previous match against Punjab Kings, the pugnacious southpaw scored 21-ball 42 to help LSG post 199.
Pooran has scored 146 runs in three matches of the ongoing IPL 2024 at an average of 146 and a whirlwind strike rate of 175.90 and he is the fourth-highest run-getter of the tournament.
On the other hand, Heinrich Klaasen has also been in rich form in the 17th edition of the IPL, scoring 167 runs in three matches at an average of 83.50 and a strike rate of 219.74 and he is the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
“Nicholas Pooran up there with Heinrich Klaasen with the consistency that he is showing in the lower order of the game. The power he generates is one thing but actually the talent that is has is just amazing. Yes he spends a lot of time in the the gym, but you would not say that he is like Marcus Stoinis type of body, but the ball striking is incredible, it is brilliant to watch,” said Morgan on Star Sports.
“You can just sit back and cheer everything on. Pooran is a very confident man but when he is in a purple patch, everything he touches turns to gold,” Morgan added.
Pooran holds the key for Lucknow Super Giants and he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world if he gets going.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
