Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted that their batting was very average after their six-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. After being put into bat by DC skipper Rishabh Pant, GT was skittled out for a paltry score of 89 runs, which is their lowest score in the IPL.
The home team got off to a horrid start, losing four wickets in the Powerplay overs to find themselves 30-4 after five overs. Shubman Gill was bamboozled by Ishant Sharma and from there on, GT batting kept sliding.
Wriddhiman Saha chopped the ball back on to the stumps whereas Sai Sudharsan was run out by Sumit Kumar. David Miller, who was returning to the playing XI, was caught brilliantly by Rishabh Pant.
Subsequently, DC’s part-time spinner Tristan Stubbs got two wickets of Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan, both stumped by Pant.
Only three GT’s batters could get to double digits as they failed to create any kind of impetus. Mukesh Kumar picked up three wickets whereas Ishant Sharma and Tristan Stubbs scalped two wickets each for DC.
Shubman Gill said after the loss, “Our batting was very average, and it is important to move on and come back strong. The wicket was alright, if you see some of the dismissals, it had nothing to do with the pitch. Poor shot selection I would say.”
He added, “When the opposition are chasing 89, unless someone takes a double hat-trick, the opposition will always be in the game. This is just the halfway mark of the season for us, we have won 3 and hopefully we win another 5-6 from the next 7 like in the last couple of years.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Sunday.
