Royal Challengers Bengaluru pack leader Mohammed Siraj wants the BCCI to remove the impact substitute rule as the wickets are already flat. The ongoing IPL 2024 has already seen some massive totals with batters taking the bowlers to the cleaners.
The extra batter has added depth to the batting unit of all 10 teams and they are making the most of it. The rule gives the option to all teams to bring in a 12th player at any stage of the innings. Mostly, the team batting first, adds a bowler in their bowling innings whereas the team bowling first, adds a batter in the second innings. But the team can also change their strategy depending on the match situation.
“Please remove this impact sub thing (laughs), the wickets are already flat and there’s nothing for the bowlers in it, previously, it used to be slow at times, but the batters now come out swinging at absolutely everything,” Siraj said ahead of the KKR clash.
Siraj revealed his plan is to be consistent and he is okay if his good ball gets hit for runs. The right-arm pacer returned with figures of 1-40 in his quota of four overs against KKR and got the big wicket of Phil Salt, who was taking the game away from RCB.
“It’s important to be comfortable, if you think too much, it’ll lead to negativity and frustrations, so I always try to be as positive as possible, try to close all negative connotations around me.
“My game plan is to be consistent, if a good ball gets hit, so be it. It was a long time that teams made 250+, but it has become such a common feature now (thanks to impact sub and the flat pitches). It’s been a long time since I’ve played a day game, I last played a day game during the Test series against England, but we’re professionals and we have no excuses,” said Siraj.
Recently Indian captain Rohit Sharma also said he is not a big fan of impact player rule as it is throwing a spanner in the works of all-rounders.
