Former England World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan hailed Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant for his fine comeback. After a rusty start to his campaign, Pant has scored two back-to-back fifties in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
The pugnacious top-scored for his team with 55 runs off just 25 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Pant was able to hit the ground running, smashing Mitchell Starc for a six on the first ball he faced.
But Pant’s effort went in vain as Delhi suffered an ignominious loss of 106 runs against KKR after the latter posted the second-highest total in IPL history – 272.
Morgan said Pant is also doing a decent job as a leader but needs to get more out of players like David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Mitchell Marsh.
“Rishabh Pant is certainly looking good and a lot of people, including myself, can’t believe his progress both physically, mentally and his performance on the field. There is one thing getting your own body and mind right, there is another thing delivering on the field. He is leading his team and he is actually leading quite well. He needs a little bit of help alongside it. He needs to find more out of the likes of Mitchell Marsh, more runs from David Warner and a lot more from Prithvi Shaw,” Eoin Morgan said while speaking on JioCinema.
Meanwhile, Pant scored 51 runs off 32 balls against defending champions Chennai Super Kings to help his team post 191 runs on the board and eventually win by 20 runs. Pant has scored 152 runs in four matches at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 158.33 and he is currently the fourth-highest run-getter in the tournament.
