Royal Challengers Bengaluru assistant coach Adam Griffith feels Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ changed approach is helping the franchise win. After not being at their best in the first phase of the league stage, RCB has won their last three matches.
RCB defeated Gujarat Titans by four wickets at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday with 38 balls to spare. While chasing a below-par score of 148, RCB was given a brisk start as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were able to hit the ground running.
Kohli smashed a huge six on the second ball he faced against Mohit Sharma whereas Faf du Plessis also adopted an aggressive approach. The RCB captain completed his fifty off just 18 balls, the second-fastest for the franchise, and scored 10 fours and three sixes in his knock of 23-ball 64.
Furthermore, Kohli continued his rich form, scoring 42 runs off 27 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes. The talisman also completed 12500 runs in T20s and joined the likes of Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, and Chris Gayle.
“The start of the tournament was not that great, especially in the powerplay. That is something we really focused on. Recently we made sure that we really work hard to get better starts for the group. Tonight, it was one of the better ones and it was good to see the hard work come off,” Adam Griffith said in the post-match press conference in Bengaluru.
On the other hand, Griffith also showered praise on Mohammed Siraj for his fine spell. Siraj returned with impressive figures of 2-29 in his quota of four overs and accounted for GT captain Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha.
“Siraj is the leader of our group. He is our most experienced bowler especially among the Indian quicks and with our international guys as well. Having him up and running and bowling well, but not only that, it’s his body language, his aggression, him trying to get wickets, he is such an important part of what he do,” Griffith said after the game.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Thursday.
