Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill said they were targeting 45 runs in the last three overs after their stunning three-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Wednesday. GT was under the cosh as they had to chase 42 runs in the last three overs but they were able to get over the line after fine knocks from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.
Tewatia scored a fine cameo of 11-ball 22 whereas Rashid Khan scored 24 off just 11 balls. The left and right-handed pair scored 20 runs in the penultimate over, which was bowled by Kuldeep Sen.
Tewatia scored three fours whereas Khan smashed four boundaries as GT bounced back despite being under the pump.
Meanwhile, GT skipper Shubman Gill gave a solid start to his team with his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan. The openers added 64 runs off 50 balls before Sudharsan was plumbed in front by Kuldeep Sen. Gill went on to score 72 runs off just 44 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
Shubman Gill said in the post-match presentation, “We were targetting 45 in 3 overs and it is very much gettable and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically both batters needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that’s how the thinking goes and if one batter goes berserk that will do. I would have loved to finish the game, but very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us. Winning the ball off the last ball is always a great feeling.”
Gill showered praise on Rashid Khan for adding the finishing touches, “He is someone who you always want in your team, he is such a competitor.”
Gujarat Titans will next lock horns against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
