Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel gave credit to the team’s bowling battery after they secured a 58-run win against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Asked to bat first, GT posted a par score of 217 runs on the board whereas the inaugural champions RR were skittled out for 159 runs.
While defending 218, Arshad Khan and Mohammed Siraj struck early to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana respectively. Subsequently, Prasidh Krishna returned with impressive figures of 3-24 in his quota of four overs as he accounted for Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, and Jofra Archer.
Furthermore, Rashid Khan, who has struggled so far in IPL 2025, and Sai Kishore bagged two wickets apiece.
“When you win by 50 odd runs on a wicket like this, every bowler came in and executed their plans well,” Patel told reporters. “Siraj is really bowling really well, Prasidh Krishna has been phenomenal throughout the tournament. Sai Kishore is probably the best spinner in the tournament so far, they way he has bowled, how brave he is and bowling in difficult conditions.”
“It’s good to see after every game a new bowler stepping up. Bowlers actually win you games, obviously batters sets it up,” he added.
Patel said they are flexible as a unit and they make their decisions depending on the match situation.
“Nobody has a specific role, we are very flexible as a team. We go by conditions and situations,” he said.
The former wicket-keeper bat revealed they didn’t use Washington Sundar as they wanted an extra seamer in the second innings against RR even though the left-hander scored 49 runs against SRH.
“He (Sundar) was part of our playing eleven, we wanted to see the situation and we always have done that, even in the last game when two wickets fell early he came in and batted. For our team, it is about understanding the situation and the conditions and we felt that we might need fourth seamer in the second innings,” Patel explained.
“If we would have lost a couple of wickets early, then it would have been a different story but we had enough batters who could do the job for us,” he added.
Gujarat Titans will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday.
