Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant admitted they were 10 runs short of a par score after suffering a six-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Lucknow in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Monday. After LSG were put into bat by SRH skipper Pat Cummins, the home team posted 205 runs on the board.
LSG openers – Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram – gave a solid start to their team, scoring 65 and 61 runs respectively. The LSG openers added 115 runs off 63 balls to give a perfect platform to their team.
Nicholas Pooran also scored 45 runs but barring these three batters, none of the other batters could deliver for LSG. The franchise’s skipper, Rishabh Pant, continued his poor form, managing only seven runs.
On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma scored a quickfire 59 off just 20 balls to put his team in front. Heinrich Klaasen scored 47 runs whereas Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis scored 35 and 32 runs respectively as SRH won with 10 balls to spare.
Pant admitted they were good in patches but could not capitalise when they were in a commanding position.
Pant said after the loss, “We have a strong batting line up, have enough firepower and that is the biggest positive for the season, even for bowlers.. a lot of times they bowled in good areas but they were patchy. We knew we were 10 runs short because the wicket was playing well, like I said before, we are playing well in patches and unable to close the momentum whenever it turned up on our side. The first half of the season we played really well but the second half it became tougher and tougher to catch up with the teams on the brighter side.”
Pant also showered praise on Digvesh Singh Rathi, who returned with figures of 2-37 in his quota of four overs and has been a positive for the franchise.
The LSG captain concluded, “The bowler Rathi has come up nicely for us, his first season, the way he bowled, he is one of the positives, but you need to keep improving yourself and get better and better as the seasons go.”
LSG will next take on the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.
