IPL 2025: Sanju Samson admits bowlers went off the plan in the death overs after loss against Gujarat Titans

    April 10, 2025

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson admitted that the bowlers veered off the plan in the death overs after suffering a 58-run loss against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. RR got off to a promising start as Jofra Archer bowled a fiery opening spell as he got rid of GT captain Shubman Gill for only two runs.

However, RR bowlers conceded 72 runs in the final five overs as GT posted a par score of 217 runs on the board. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals in their batting innings and never got the impetus going as they were skittled out for 159.

Samson reckons it was a chaseable score on a good batting wicket but they could not come up with a collective effort.

“There was definitely some purchase in the wicket, “Samson said in the post-match presentation, “having someone like a Jofra to bowl first, the way he started taking Shubman Gill’s wicket and the way we started in the powerplay, that’s what we planned.

“We just went off the plan in the death overs. I think, a few plans, we prepared something else, the bowlers executed something else. So, we need to look back maybe tomorrow or day after in the meeting and we’ll come back and try to execute the same.

“They also batted really well but I think a couple of sixes or 15 to 20 runs, we gave away in the bowling.”

On the other hand, RR’s spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule admitted they conceded 20 runs too many but gave credit to Sai Sudharsan, who scored 82 runs.

“Ya, we could have maybe given about 20 runs less but I think they batted well,” he said. “Sai Sudharsan came out of the powerplay very strongly and they had better partnerships than what we did, and that’s how they got a total which was big but I personally feel we could have got closer to that only if we had some partnerships going.

Rajasthan Royals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
