Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer lauded the collective effort of the team after an eight-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings restricted the opposition to 171-7. Arshdeep Singh got the early wicket of in-form Mitchell Marsh whereas Aiden Markram played back onto his stumps against Lockie Ferguson after getting off to a decent start (28 off 18 balls).
Nicholas Pooran continued his good form and scored 44 runs but he was bamboozled by a wide delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal. Arshdeep Singh returned with figures of 3-43 as he dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad whereas Yuzvendra Chahal, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Marco Jansen bagged one wicket apiece.
On the other hand, Prabhsimran Singh scored an impressive knock of 69 runs off just 34 balls whereas Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera scored 52 and 43 runs respectively in the run-chase of 172.
Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation, “It is the start we required. Boys played their role really well. Every individual contributed to the best of their ability and whatever was discussed in the team meeting, we implemented really well. To be honest, there’s no right combination. Just that the camaraderie and synergy has to click at the right time.”
He added, “I feel all teams have the right potential to go out there and win the game. It’s just that you need to have the similar kind of mindset when you go out there, which is to win. I always try to be in the present as much as possible. Even this innings is now history for me. Just want to focus on the next one now.”
Punjab Kings will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Saturday.
