Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar admitted they were 15-20 runs short of a par score after they suffered a six-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals at the M.Chinnamswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday. RCB posted 175-8 in their 20 overs after they were asked to bat first by DC skipper Axar Patel.
The home team got off to a decent start with their openers – Phil Salt and Virat Kohli – adding 51 runs for the opening alliance. Phil Salt went on to score 63 runs off 38 balls but rest of the RCB batters could not convert their starts.
On the other hand, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs scored fine knocks of 57 and 60 runs respectively to help their team get over the line. David Miller, who had messed up the run-chase against Gujarat Titans, delivered when DC needed 13 runs off the last four balls.
Patidar said they lost quick wickets after the 12th over mark, which put them under the cosh.
He said in the post-match presentation, “Yeah, that was really close, but I feel that we were 15-20 runs short. The way we started initially, especially VK bhai and Salt, I think they have given a good start, but from there after, I think 12 or 13 overs, I think we lose wickets in a couple of overs and that put us on the backseat.”
He added, “I think in first inning, that was a bit tacky, I would say. But I think the way we stretched in the last over, I think that’s a positive sign for us. But I think I was just discussing with the bowler that be clear whatever you do. I think it’s a long tournament, but I think we will go back and introspect where we put the errors and we’ll rectify them.”
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Gujarat Titans at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Friday.
