Irfan Pathan suggests technical changes for Yashasvi Jaiswal after IND vs SA 2025 ODIs

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested a few technical changes for Yashasvi Jaiswal after the ODI series against South Africa. Pathan highlighted that Jaiswal’s hip goes towards short fine-leg and his shoulder’s upper body opens up, and he tries to go side on, which lands him in trouble.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal did struggle a bit in the initial phase in the third ODI, completing his fifty off 75 balls. However, he was able to change gears swiftly and went on to score a match-winning knock of 116 runs off 121 balls. This was Jaiswal’s maiden ODI century and Pathan said it was imperative for the left-hander to get amongst the runs after two ordinary innings.

Jaiswal added 155 runs with Rohit Sharma and then added 116 runs with Virat Kohli.

Irfan Pathan said on his YouTube Channel, “It was important to come runs off Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat. He is an all-format player and I had said before the series that he can hit 200 if set. The way he batted after his half-century showed he can make big scores. But he struggled initially, stepped out, got beaten and tried to cut numerous times. He has Test hundreds, a T20I ton and now he has a century in all three formats. It shows his potential. Despite the struggle, he didn’t play any rash shot to throw away his wicket. Jaiswal opted to stay at the crease despite the struggle.”

“It was sensational to see the young man scoring runs. But I would like to analyse his technique a bit deeper. His hip goes towards short fine leg and his shoulder’s upper body opens up and he tries to go side on. He needs to synchronize these three things. He struggles with these initially, especially against left-arm bowlers. When Jaiswal gets time, he should work on these.”

Meanwhile, Pathan highlighted that Prasidh Krishna would have been under the pump after he conceded 27 runs in the two overs he bowled. However, Krishna bounced back strongly, returning with figures of 4-66 in 9.5 overs he bowled to play a key role in bowling out the Proteas at 270.

“Prasidh Krishna would have been under a lot of pressure after his first spell, giving away 27 runs in two overs and performed poorly in the first two games. But he got out set batters – Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzke and Aiden Markram. Markram had scored a hundred in the previous game. Krishna has to remember one thing, which is to bowl the correct length right from the outset. He has height and swing too but he needs to be consistent with his lengths from the start.”

India will next take on South Africa in a five-match T20I series.
