Ishant Sharma Backs Yashasvi Jaiswal To Convert His Start into a Century in Dominica Test

India’s off-spinner, R Ashwin, delivered a captivating performance on the opening day of the 1st Test against the West Indies in Dominica, helping his team take firm control of the match. After restricting the hosts to a meager 150 runs, India reached 80 without loss, trailing by only 70 runs. Ashwin displayed his brilliance, claiming 5/60 in 24.3 overs and reaching a significant milestone of 700 international wickets by dismissing Alzarri Joseph.

India’s fielding performance was marked by exceptional discipline, preventing the West Indies from settling into a rhythm. Debutant Alick Athanaze was the standout performer for the hosts, scoring 47 runs before being caught by Shardul Thakur off Ashwin’s bowling.

Looking ahead to Day 2, Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who debuted as an expert for JioCinema, shared his insights. He highlighted the importance of caution and building on the solid foundation laid by openers Rohit Sharma (30*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (40*). Ishant emphasized the need to be patient and focused, acknowledging that there is ample time left in the game to reach the target of 70 runs and extend the lead.

Speaking specifically about Jaiswal’s debut Test, Ishant encouraged the young batsman to capitalize on the platform he has been provided. He advised Jaiswal to aim for a half-century first and gradually build his innings, considering the excellent opportunity to potentially score a century.

As witnessed on the first day, the pitch favors spinners, and Ishant predicted further deterioration as the match progresses. He emphasized the importance of India aiming for a lead of 300 runs to avoid batting again in the second innings.

However, Ishant acknowledged that the West Indies still have a chance to make a comeback if they remain focused. He emphasized the crucial nature of the first session for the hosts, suggesting that even if they don’t take wickets early on, curtailing the run rate would keep them in the game. Ishant advised the West Indies to capitalize on the pitch’s assistance to their spinners and build pressure on the Indian batsmen.

With the stage set for an intriguing Day 2, both teams will be looking to gain the upper hand and seize control of the match.
