Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel wants Yash Dayal to make his Test debut in the second game against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Patel said it has been a while since India has played a left-arm seamer in Test cricket.
Dayal picked four wickets in the Duleep trophy match, which India B won by 76 runs against India A. The left-arm seamer has picked 76 wickets in 24 first-class matches at an average of 28.89 while playing for Uttar Pradesh.
Dayal was hit for five sixes by Rinku Singh in Indian Premier League 2023 but since then he has made an inspiring comeback.
Parthiv Patel said on ANI, “This will be a great chance to see a left-armer. It has been a while since India had a left-arm seamer, so I feel if he gets the chance, it will be good. We will know. Yash Dayal has tremendous potential. So I don’t think there is harm in trying.”
On the other hand, Patel reckons Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan will have to wait for their chances in the Test team. Jurel scored 190 runs in three Test matches at an average of 63.33 against England. The youngster also scored a match-winning knock of 90 runs off 149 balls in the first innings of the fourth Test at Ranchi.
Meanwhile, Khan scored 200 runs in three Test matches against England at an average of 50. But with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant returning to the Test team, the young duo of Jurel and Khan will have to wait for their opportunities.
“I don’t think Sarfaraz and Dhruv will make a comeback to the side. Rishabh has just made a comeback. Both of them are very very talented players and very much ready for Test cricket. But they will have to wait for their chances.”
The second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from September 27.
