“It was not a rank turner, but the dominance by India was the same” – Sanjay Manjrekar lauds Rohit Sharma and Co. after victory in IND vs BAN 1st Test

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar hailed Rohit Sharma’s team after their convincing 280-run win against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday. Manjrekar lauded India’s dominant win at the Chepauk despite the pitch not being a rank turner.

India posted a fighting score of 376 runs on the board after Ashwin scored a brilliant knock of 113 runs. Subsequently, India’s pace battery was right on the money with Jasprit Bumrah bagging four wickets whereas Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep returned with two scalps apiece in the first essay.

Furthermore, Ashwin delivered in the second innings as he returned with figures of 6-88 whereas Ravindra Jadeja picked 3-58.

“India are beating strong sides at home. Bangladesh was going to be a different proposition because I believe that India had a real challenge when it came to the kind of players Bangladesh have, the kind of spinners they have,” Manjrekar said on ESPN Cricinfo.

“So, rank turners, which has been India’s MO (modus operandi) to win matches at home cannot be give. But, despite that, what really stood out, and what I think the coach and the captain will be happy about is that it was not a rank turner, but the dominance by India was the same. They have got these batters, these excellent slip catchers, some great seam bowlers and spinners,” Manjrekar added.

On the other hand, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was delighted with the team’s comprehensive victory. Sharma said they were well prepared and they got the desired result out of the Test match.

“I thought it was a great result looking at what lies ahead for us. Yes we’ve been playing after a long time but you’re never out of cricket, you are in touch with cricket. We had a good leadup to the Test match and we got the result we wanted,” Team India skipper Rohit Sharma said during the post-match presentation.
