Australia’s veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has opened up on the long decade wait to win the Border-Gavaskar series against India. India has won the last two Test series while playing on the Australian soil and Aussies last Test series triumph against India came back in 2014.
India was brilliant on the last tour of Australia as they won despite having a second-string team. Furthermore, the visitors had lost opening Test match at Adelaide after they were bowled out for 36 runs.
Meanwhile, Australia won the World Test Championship final against India by 209 runs at Kennington Oval in 2023.
Lyon has scalped 116 wickets in 26 Test matches of the Border Gavaskar series at an average of 32.40.
“It’s been 10 years of unfinished business. It’s been a long time. I know I’m extremely hungry to turn things around and make sure we get that trophy back, that’s for sure,” Lyon told AAP.
On the other hand, Josh Hazlewood said he will look to play all five Test matches against India in the Border-Gavaskar series.
There’s a few factors there, but I’m always planning to play all five (Tests). I think with a bowling captain as well, he can be a lot smarter in that regard in terms of maybe throwing the ball to Travis Head for an over here or there and Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh. We’ve got a lot of extra bowlers there as well,” Hazlewood told AAP.
Lyon feels there are a few things they can do differently to break their series win drought against India.
“I often reflect on a lot of series and where we potentially could have done better, even when we win series. I feel that’s incredibly important in your learning, to be able to sit back and reflect and understand what you did well and what you didn’t do well,” Lyon added in the same interaction.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
