Australian captain Pat Cummins wants to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy against India as he feels it is the only thing he hasn’t ticked off yet in his career. Cummins will lead Australia for the first time in the series and the Aussies will look to come up with a collective show. India has won the last two Test series while playing in Australia and Cummins said he would want to win the trophy as he hasn’t won it yet.
Cummins led Australia to glory in the World Test Championship after they defeated India by 209 runs at the Kennington Oval in the final. However, Australia was beaten twice by India when Tim Paine was leading the team.
Australia is currently the number one Test team in the ICC rankings whereas India is the number two team and thus it is going to be a humdinger series between two cricketing powerhouses.
Speaking during an event, Cummins said as quoted by Sydney Morning Herald, “I was thinking about it the other day. It’s close to the only thing I haven’t really ticked off. I’ve not beaten India in a Test series yet. A few of the guys have, but I haven’t.”
Meanwhile, Cummins has delivered as a leader for Australia, taking them to glory in the ODI World Cup 2023. The gun fast bowler said he tries to be himself to get the best out of his players.
“My whole life, you look up to the Australian captain and you know who it is, and you’re like ‘oh wow, they’re so accomplished, and they must have all their shit together. And then suddenly when you are captain you’re like ‘oh, I’m going to be that type of person. In the initial phases, it was awesome that I had loads of support, and those who had to make the decision chose me and thought I was up for it before I even knew I was myself, I suppose.”
“So it was like ‘OK, do I want to try and replicate other people, or do I just want to be myself?’ And I always thought I should be myself because it’s all I really know,” he added.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
