Mumbai Indians’ talismanic all-rounder Kieron Pollard has decided to hang his boots from the IPL. Pollard was released by the five-time champions and he said he couldn’t think of playing for any other franchise. The former West Indies all-rounder was roped in IPL 2009 auction and thus he played for the franchise for 13 years.
Pollard didn’t have a great previous season as he could only manage 144 runs in 11 matches after he was retained for INR six crores. The right-hander scored 3412 runs in 189 IPL matches at an average of 28.67 and a blistering strike rate of 147.32.
Pollard also took 69 wickets in the IPL for MI. The Trinidadian made his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals (earlier Delhi Daredevils) in IPL 2010.
The all-rounder played a key role in providing the finishing touches for Mumbai Indians and he was always a live-wire in the field.
“It hasn’t been the easiest decision to make as I will keep playing for a few more years, but I understand that this incredible franchise which has achieved so much needs to transition and if I’m no longer to play for MI then I cannot see myself playing against MI either,” Pollard said in a statement on Tuesday morning, just hours before the IPL 2023 retention deadline was to end. “Once an MI always an MI.”

Pollard will now serve as the batting coach of Mumbai Indians.
