India’s spin-bowling all-round prospects Tanush Kotian, Harsh Dubey and Vipraj Nigam have been selected to travel with the national team to Sri Lanka as net bowlers for the upcoming two-Test series, underlining the selectors’ faith in the trio’s potential.
Although the three are unlikely to feature in the playing XI unless required by exceptional circumstances, the tour represents an important milestone in their development. Training alongside the senior squad will provide valuable exposure to international cricket and offer them an opportunity to work closely with the national coaching staff.
Kotian has been among the most consistent performers in domestic cricket over the past two seasons. The Mumbai off-spinning all-rounder has already spent time around the Indian setup and continues to remain firmly in the selectors’ plans due to his dependable performances with both bat and ball.
Harsh Dubey earned recognition after a superb Ranji Trophy campaign for Vidarbha. The left-arm spinner emerged as one of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers while also making useful contributions in the lower order, strengthening his reputation as a reliable all-round option.
Vipraj Nigam, the youngest member of the group, has rapidly emerged as one of India’s most promising spin-bowling all-rounders. The leg-spinner impressed with fearless performances in the Indian Premier League before carrying that form into domestic cricket. He also featured for the India A side during its tour of Sri Lanka in June and July, where his all-round abilities attracted attention. His knack for turning the ball both ways, coupled with his batting contributions, has made him one of the country’s exciting young prospects.
The inclusion of Kotian, Dubey and Nigam as net bowlers reflects India’s continued emphasis on grooming emerging talent through overseas exposure. Taking standout domestic performers on international tours has become an integral part of the team’s development programme, allowing young cricketers to acclimatise to the demands of the highest level while training with established international players.
While an India cap may not come on this tour, the opportunity itself signals that all three remain firmly on the national selectors’ radar. For Kotian, Dubey and Nigam, the Sri Lanka assignment offers another important step in their progression and a chance to further strengthen their case for future senior international opportunities.
