Former Indian attacking opener Kris Srikkanth has praised the selectors for picking Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the T20I series against New Zealand. Srikkanth hailed the selectors for picking Kumar for a foreign tour, as he can excel in swinging conditions.
Bhuvneshwar scalped 28 wickets in 16 matches of IPL 2026 and had played an instrumental role in taking Royal Challengers Bengaluru to glory. The swing master has performed consistently in the recent past and also scalped 14 wickets in 11 matches while leading Lucknow Falcons in UP T20 League 2026.
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, Cheeky Chekka, “It is a fantastic move as New Zealand presents the ideal conditions for him to make a comeback. He can move it both ways there and dismiss batters. Thank god he is not making a comeback in India or in some other subcontinent conditions. I am happy that the selectors finally decided that Bhuvneshwar needs one more good look in.”
On the other hand, the 1983 World Cup-winning player praised the selectors for picking fast bowlers like Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav.
“Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, it’s good that India have picked Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav. They should promote such players instead of some random unknown guys,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
Both Yadavs are currently part of the T20I squad against the West Indies. Mayank Yadav returned with expensive figures of 1-40 in his four overs in the series opener against the visitors, whereas Prince didn’t play.
Both Delhi pacers would look to pick Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s brain on the New Zealand tour.
India’s tour of New Zealand starts on October 22 with the first T20I at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval.
