Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth questioned India’s bowling after the team conceded 405 runs in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Wednesday. Srikkanth questioned the performances of Gurnoor Brar and debutant Auqib Nabi Dar.
India gave the ODI cap to Auqib Nabi Dar but the fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir didn’t have a great debut, conceding 84 runs in 8.5 overs he bowled. Thus, the pacer bagged an unwanted record of conceding the most runs by an Indian bowler on debut.
On the other hand, Brar was taken for 96 runs in his quota of 10 overs in the second game. Eventually, West Indies posted a par score of 405-7 runs on the board, but it was chased down comfortably by the hosts.
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “It was a terrible wicket for the bowlers. It’s impossible to play on such a pitch. Gurnoor almost gave 100 runs. He seems like he’ll always give 100 runs in his spell. Auqib Nabi has no chance in international cricket. Yes, he’s a youngster, but to bowl on such a pitch, he has no scope.”
“By playing on such pitches, he and Gurnoor Brar will get exposed and lose confidence. That’s the biggest mistake the team management is making. India’s bowling looks very ordinary, and it’s an alarming sign.”
On the other hand, the 1983 World Cup-winning player said Mohammed Siraj would have been happy that he didn’t play on the featherbed pitch.
“He’s ( Siraj) looking clueless from the outside. Although on one side, he might be happy that he didn’t play this match on such a wicket. It is also not clear as to why Nitish Kumar Reddy suddenly didn’t play this match,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
The third ODI between India and the West Indies will be played at New Chandigarh on Saturday.
