Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth questioned India’s performances in the 2-2 drawn series against the West Indies. India was the favorites to win the series comprehensively but the visitors won two games and fifth match ended in a no result.
India won the opening game convincingly but the tourists chased down the target of 250 runs in the second match. The hosts won the third game by 14 runs but the Windies once again bounced back to win the penultimate match by 24 runs after posting 247 runs on the board.
Srikkanth reckons India was not at their best with neither bat nor the ball against the West Indies.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “It is disappointing that India finished level with a dismal West Indies side and almost lost the series. West Indies has batting firepower, but their bowling is terrible. India allowed nobodies like Springer to take wickets. But the Indian bowling is a big question mark. It’s also an injustice to play on these 250 tracks. Some help has to be there for the bowlers. It’s becoming so bat-dominated that it’s boring to watch the matches.”
The 1983 World Cup-winning player said it was a blessing in disguise that Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t play the final T20I against the West Indies as New Zealand conditions will suit him more.
“In a way, it was a blessing in disguise that Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t bowl in the final T20I against the West Indies. Because the ideal conditions for Bhuvneshwar to make a comeback will be in New Zealand. In New Zealand, we won’t see such high scores,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
The first T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Thursday.
