Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth questioned Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s judgement after the second T20I against Zimbabwe. The youngster was dismissed after scoring 20 runs off nine deliveries at the Harare Sports Club, on Saturday.

Once again, the prodigy batter was dismissed on a short delivery and Srikkanth reckons there was no need for Sooryavanshi to play that shot as he had got off to a brisk start.

Srikkanth believes Sooryavanshi needs to have the maturity in his game.

“Vaibhav hit 4,6,4,4 and then got out in the same over. So that maturity has to come. There was no need to play that shot then. If he gets that maturity, he can be a great player. One good thing is that he can take the bowling apart anyway, so that maturity will help,” Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan scored an impressive knock of 81 runs off just 44 balls as he batted at the top of his game. Kishan was awarded Player of the Match.

“Ishan Kishan, when he is on song, he is on song. He plays on another level. He got everything right. A typical knock where he can hit from fine leg to cover, he has that range. They tried bowling short to him because he got out a few times to that before but he capitalised really well.”

Furthermore, Tilak Varma scored a fine knock of 60 runs off 29 balls. Srikkanth praised Varma for his blistering innings but questioned his consistency.

He concluded, “Tilak came in at the right time. The thing with him is that once in four-five games he will play a deadly knock. It was a good knock. Hopefully he continues. Consistency is a factor with him. They have given him a firm slot, and he did well. Today I was happy. He capitalised well. In all fairness, he picked up the run-rate well. Strike rate was fantastic.”

India won the third T20I against Zimbabwe by 35 runs.
