Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth questioned Yash Thakur’s selection after the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Thakur made his debut against the hosts in the second game and returned with figures of 2-30 in his four overs.

In the third and final game of the series, the right-arm pacer bagged 2-45 but didn’t have the rub of the green on his side as a plethora of catches were dropped of his bowling.

Srikkanth questioned the team’s think tank for dropping Ashok Sharma after he made his debut in the series opener on Thursday. Sharma was played in the final game and he returned with figures of 1-20 after going wicketless on his debut.

“Yash Thakur is not an international-level bowler. Abhishek also took three wickets here. You have fast-tracked him. Is he really India material? No chance. This is where you are making a mistake. Why did you drop Ashok Sharma after giving him a debut? You gave him a chance, then dropped him. You are making a kichdi here and spoiling the team. You start backing the wrong horses. If you have decided on Ashok Sharma and decided to develop a youngster, stick with that. Yash is not international material. He does not even bowl in the IPL team that he plays for. Ashok played regularly in the IPL and bowled well too. On what basis are you picking and dropping players?” Srikkanth questioned in a video on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma returned with impressive figures of 3-17 in 2.5 overs he bowled in the second T20I against the hosts and Srikkanth said part-timers bowling more often is a good sign for Indian cricket.

“Part-time bowlers are important and very crucial. Guys like Dube and all others who bowled, the more they start bowling, the better it is and good for India, be it any format. This will be very useful. The way Abhishek bowled and got three wickets is a very good sign.”

India registered a 3-0 series win against Zimbabwe after winning the final T20I by 35 runs at Harare on Sunday.
