Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth said it would be foolish to write off Ravindra Jadeja for the ODI World Cup 2027. Jadeja was rested for the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan as India handed a maiden call-up to Harsh Dubey.
Meanwhile, Jadeja was also not part of the ODI series against Australia however he was part of the home series against New Zealand earlier in the year.
Jadeja could only manage 43 runs in three matches against the Kiwis and went wicketless in the series. However, Jadeja has all the experience under his belt and he would look to be at his best in the upcoming series.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “Jadeja cannot be written off yet as he’s a brilliant cricketer. Nitish Kumar Reddy is a developing all-rounder. So once Hardik Pandya is back, it’ll be only one of himself and Nitish. The other all-rounder must be Jadeja. But Jadeja also must start performing. Yet, even though he’s not at his peak, it’ll be foolish to write him off.”
The 1983 World Cup winning player said Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in the World Cup will depend on his form.
“Rohit’s inclusion will depend on his form. If he keeps scoring runs, then what’s the problem? He has been scoring in the recent ODIs. He looks very fit and is timing the ball well. So you can’t jump the gun one way or the other. The next few months will be a trial-and-error period. By January or March next year, we should fix a list of 20 players for the 2027 World Cup,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
Rohit was run out after scoring run-a-ball 16 against Afghanistan in the first ODI at Dharamshala on Saturday.
