Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth believes selectors will need to take a tough call on Abhishek Sharma after the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Sharma could only manage 11 runs in three games against Zimbabwe at an average of 3.66.

Srikkanth reckons Sanju Samson will now definitely get his chance in the next series for India. Samson had scored 321 runs in five matches of the T20 World Cup but was dropped on the UK tour after he managed six runs in the initial three games (two against Ireland and one against England).

“Abhishek Sharma has been sorted out (by opponents) in international cricket, right from the World Cup. I think a tough call has to be taken against him now. I feel Sanju will get his chance again now. He will receive a call back 100%. The selectors will have to take a tough call,” Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Abhishek had managed 131 runs in five T20Is against England at an average of 26.20 and a strike rate of 177.03.

On the other hand, Srikkanth was impressed with the way Mayank Yadav bowled against Zimbabwe. Yadav scalped five wickets in three T20Is against the hosts at an average of 14.40.

“It was good to see Mayank Yadav playing all three games. So happy for him. Look at how consistent this boy was. The Indian future is very good. You have to back the right youngsters. I don’t mind Ashok Sharma either,” he said.

Yadav was impressive with the ball and breathed down the neck of the opposition batters with his extra pace.

Meanwhile, India registered a 3-0 series win against Zimbabwe after winning the final T20I by 35 runs at Harare on Sunday.
