Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth slammed Lockie Ferguson’s performance after India won the second T20I against New Zealand by four wickets at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Saturday.
The express fast bowler returned with expensive figures of 0-37 in three overs he bowled, including two no-balls. Ferguson could not hit the right line and length and he was taken to the cleaners by Indian batters.
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “Lockie Ferguson is there just to help India. He only feeds runs. He runs in fast and bowls, but the ball travels even faster. You’ve played for so long, do you think anyone fears your pace? Nobody fears your pace. The Indians smashed him in his first over itself. He is the one who finishes New Zealand.”
The 1983 World Cup-winning player said the Kiwis have an ordinary bowling attack, barring Mitchell Santner. The New Zealand skipper returned with impressive figures of 4-21 in his quota of four overs but his efforts went in vain.
“They don’t have a deadly bowling attack at all, except Mitchell Santner, who is probably the best spinner in the world today. Michael Bracewell is decent, but the rest are very ordinary. The Indians have decided to play New Zealand’s two spinners normally and then smash the other bowlers. India’s batting lineup also intimidates bowlers,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith were also expensive in their respective spells as they could not keep the Indian batters at bay. The visitors needed 48 runs off 19 balls but Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy were able to get their team over the line in the run chase of 181.
The third T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Hnry Stadium, Wellington on Tuesday.
