Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth slammed Sam Curran for his mundane performance in the T20 World Cup semifinal against India at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. Curran conceded 53 runs in his quota of four overs and also went wicketless.
Furthermore, the left-hander scored 18 runs off 14 balls when England needed more than 13 runs/over. Srikkanth highlighted that Curran could not provide the right support to Jacob Bethell, who scored a blistering knock of 105 runs off just 48 balls.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “He’s an absolute waste, taking ones and twos at that time. You can’t win a match with him, be it in bowling or batting. He has no strength to hit big. Bethell was alone and could not do anything. Overton is underton, doing a well-left at the end.”
“Curran ate up too many deliveries. He ended up putting pressure on Bethell also. He also bowled terribly. Curran needed a strike rate of 250, not 130. He should have played a knock like Tilak Varma. His knock was useless when they needed so many per over. Sam Curran finished England.”
On the other hand, Srikkanth also expressed surprise with the way veteran England batter Jos Buttler batted. The England opener scored 25 runs off 17 balls but struggled to get his timing right.
“Buttler has totally lost it with the bat. I am not sure what happened to him. Buttler has become butter. He’s playing like butter. He just scored a fluke six here and there before slogging and getting out playing with no care. Likewise, Salt’s batting has no salt or pepper,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
After knocking England out of the tournament, India will take on New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.
