Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth has slammed Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy ahead of Punjab Kings’ match against Mumbai Indians at Dharamshala on Thursday. PBKS had got off to a dream start, winning their first six-completed matches in the ongoing season.
However, the Mohali-based franchise have lost their last four games and have veered off the track at this crucial phase of the tournament. Surprisingly, Iyer, who is known for his astute captaincy, didn’t gave the ball to Yuzvendra Chahal in the last game at Dharamshala against Delhi Capitals. The track was helping the seamers and Iyer didn’t back Chahal.
Srikkanth urged PBKS to back the spin duo of Harpreet Brar and Yuzvendra Chahal in their playing XI.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “They have to play and bowl their spinners, Chahal and Harpreet Brar. It’s high time Shreyas Iyer shows confidence in them. He cannot joke around by not bowling Chahal even one over. What kind of rubbish thinking is this? Can’t a primary spinner not bowl two overs on a flat wicket? Chahal has bowled so many times on flat tracks for RCB and won matches for them.”
The 1983 World Cup winning player wants Harpreet Brar to be part of the playing XI. Brar has played a solitary match in the ongoing season, in which he bagged 0-25 in his four overs.
“Brar has to play in the 11 for them. Even in the flattest of wickets, he will not go for more than 35 runs off four overs. He might get you a wicket also if the batter tries to slog him. He’s an excellent bowler. The handful of matches he has played, he has been brilliant,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
PBKS will want to get back to winning ways against Mumbai Indians.
