India’s wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav admitted he has regrets that he didn’t get a chance to play even a single Test match on the England tour in 2025. India played a 2-2 draw against England after winning the fifth Test match by six runs.

However, Yadav wasn’t backed by the team management and the likes of Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja were preferred ahead of him. Nitish Kumar Reddy also played two Tests for the tourists on that tour.

Gautam Gambhir-led coaching staff wanted to have depth in their batting and thus backed all-rounders ahead of specialist bowlers.

Against England, Kuldeep has bagged 21 wickets in six Test matches at an impressive average of 22.28 but he was still ignored by the team’s think tank.

Kuldeep Yadav said on Wisden Cricket, “Sometimes you have to just go with the team combination and strategy. Unfortunately, you feel bad for yourself when you are not in the playing 11 despite being in the squad. But sometimes it doesn’t happen because of whatever the management thinks.”

Kuldeep has scalped 80 wickets in 19 Test matches at an average of 23.36.

Meanwhile, after picking a solitary wicket in the opening Test match against Sri Lanka, Yadav recently returned with impressive figures of 10-120 in the County Championship match against Essex while playing for Yorkshire.

“It’s not like I am trying to prove a point to anyone. I just wanted to come here and enjoy the cricket. Yes, in last year’s Test series in England, I was hoping to get a chance in a few games, but it’s okay that it didn’t happen,” said Kuldeep (via the aforementioned source).
