India’s wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has opened up on the Decision Review System dilemma amid the ODI series against West Indies. Yadav got the big wicket of Justin Greaves in the opening game of the series after pushing skipper Shubman Gill to go for the review.
The wrist spinner plumbed the WI opener in front of the wickets but the on-field umpire turned down the appeal. Yadav then asked Gill to go for the review as wicket-keeper KL Rahul was not too confident about challenging the umpire’s call.
Eventually, Gill went for the review and on replay, there were three reds, resulting in a wicket for India. Yadav was delighted after the umpire was forced to reverse his initial decision.
The wrist spinner has also played under Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s captaincy and he revealed that it was easy to convince the latter to go for the review but it was challenging to convince the former.
“Review is something which I am very bad at. It is slightly difficult to convince the captain. It is very easy to convince Virat bhai. I can actually convince Shubman also, I do sometimes. But Rohit bhai is difficult to convince, and it has always been like that. I thought it was pitching on line and the ball was hitting. But I was a bit unsure about the height. Luckily it was in our favor and it was an important wicket. Justin was batting very well,” he said. (via bcci.tv)
On the other hand, Kuldeep returned with impressive figures of 4-40 in 10 overs he bowled and the wrist spinner was delighted with his spell.
“If I talk about my bowling, I think I am pretty happy with my spell. I tried to bowl a bit slower through the air and just tried to mix the variations. They started really well. But a couple of wickets and you are back in the game. We got 3-4 wickets in a bunch so we were actually back in the game.”
Kuldeep was awarded Player of the Match for his fine performance.
