Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary questioned Riyan Parag’s statement after Rajasthan Royals registered a 30-run win against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Sunday. With this win, RR was able to qualify for the playoffs.
In the post-match presentation, Parag said he was not supposed to play this do-or-die game because of a hamstring problem, but he played because of mental toughness. Parag further added that Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja are fine and should be fit for the Eliminator contest against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“I am definitely not fit, I was not supposed to play tonight and not play another game as well but it was all mental toughness. Jofra is hard as a rock, Jaddu bhai has got a couple of niggles but he has got the sword and he should be fine,” the captain said during the post-match presentation.
However, Tiwary was not pleased with Parag’s statement and said the RR skipper should not reveal such information.
“I could not understand what he was trying to say through that statement. Saying that he was injured, and he played through mental toughness, and even before this, he said that Ravindra Jadeja is being rested due to workload management, then the fielding coach is saying something else, so there are a lot of things here. He can be happy that he has taken the team to the playoffs as a captain. So, enjoy, but while enjoying it, do not make such statements that no one understands,” Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, Parag was dismissed after scoring 14 runs when he was caught nicely by Tilak Varma at long-on.
Jofra Archer was the star of the show for RR, scoring 32 runs off just 15 balls. More importantly, Archer returned with match-winning figures of 3-17 in his four overs.
