Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has suggested a tactic to keep Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at bay in the upcoming five-match T20I series. Vaughan reckons England should decide to bat first so that Sooryavanshi gets tired while fielding.
Sooryavanshi had come under scrutiny for his fielding efforts during the IPL 2026. The youngster needs to work a bit on his fitness and Vaughan reckons the English players can exploit that weakness.
Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi didn’t make his T20I debut against Ireland in two games as India continued to back Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. The youngster recently scored 776 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 and ended the tournament as the highest run-getter.
“The one thing he’s going to have to cope with is his fielding. There’s no impact sub where he can sit on the bench. If I was England, I’d ask India to field first because then by the time Suryavanshi comes to bat, he might be tired,” Michael Vaughan said on Ajinkya Rahane’s YouTube channel.
Vaughan hailed Sooryavanshi for revolutionizing T20 batting with his blistering batting. The left-hander scored his runs at a whirlwind strike rate of 237.30 in IPL 2026.
“There’s only one name that is being talked about here and that is the 15-year-old kid. I think T20 cricket, particularly through Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has taken the game to 230 being a par score. I think that is the norm now, teams are looking to get 230-plus. Opening batters are going harder than ever. It is almost as if a 15-year-old has sent a message to the rest of the world that T20 cricket can go to another level,” Michael Vaughan said.
The first T20I between India and England will be played on Wednesday.
