Australia’s gun fast bowler Mitchell Starc reflected on Rohit Sharma’s all-out attack in the Super 8 stage match against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Indian skipper took the attack against Starc in his second over, taking him for 29 runs.
This turned out to be the most expensive over in Starc’s T20I career. Australia had got the early wicket of Virat Kohli but Rohit Sharma batting in a different zone altogether.
The Indian opener scored a whirlwind knock of 92 runs off just 41 balls to help India post a par score of 205 runs on the board. The right-hander scored seven fours and eight sixes in his blistering knock. Starc did bounce back well in the remaining two overs as he returned with figures of 2-45 despite that expensive over against Rohit.
Australia in response could only manage 181-7 and lost by 24 runs. As a result, the Mitchell Marsh-led team was knocked out of the tournament as they were stunned by Afghanistan in the Super 8 contest.
Starc admitted he bowled five bad balls and Rohit was able to capitalize against him in the Powerplay over.
“I’ve played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six,” said Starc on the Willow Talk podcast.
Rohit Sharma scored 257 runs in eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.71. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career as the leading run-getter in the format, with 4231 runs in 159 matches.
