Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has lavished praise on Dhruv Jurel after the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Jurel impressed one and all as he scored an unbeaten knock of 115 runs in the first innings of the second Test match at Colombo. The right-hander also scored a decent knock of 51 runs off 68 balls in the first innings of the opening Test match.
Jurel scored 173 runs in two Test matches at an average of 86.50. The right-hander batted with great control throughout the series and reaped rewards for putting in the hard yards.
Kaif highlighted that Jurel is a very organised batter and he didn’t look in a hustle while playing his shots.
Mohammad Kaif said on his YouTube Channel, “He is a very organised batter. You don’t usually get such organised batters who punch off the back foot and play the pull shot. There was something special about that batting. He is the kind of batter where, in the future, even though he is only at the beginning of his career, you might actually pay for a ticket just to go and watch him bat.
“I found him to be such an organised batter. There is some elegance in his batting, where it is the pull, the cut, the punch, jumping down the track against the spinner and hitting him. And considering the phase he was in, the pressure he was under, the way he batted and scored runs was impressive,” he added.
Kaif praised Dhruv Jurel’s fielding efforts in the second Test match against Sri Lanka. Jurel had to keep wickets when Pant needed some rest after taking blows on his shoulder. Pant then took the wicket-keeping duties back on the fourth day’s play.
“You can talk about his fielding as well. He was taking catches at square leg. He is a wicketkeeper, but he was taking catches in the field. I was wondering how he would have prepared for all of this because, as a wicketkeeper, he was suddenly told, ‘You go and field at square leg.’ Then you have to prepare yourself for fielding. Rishabh Pant got injured, so you have to keep wickets.”
India won the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka by 1-0.
