Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has showered praise on Prasidh Krishna after he produced an impressive spell on the third day’s play against Sri Lanka at Colombo on Tuesday. Krishna accounted for Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Udara at the fag end of the second day’s play.
The lanky pacer gave an early breakthrough to the visitors on the third day’s play, dismissing debutant Kamil Mishara with a short-pitch delivery. The Karnataka bowler then got rid of Kamindu Mendis with another short delivery.
At the end of the day’s play, Krishna had figures of 3-47 in 14 overs he bowled.
“I believe the fast bowlers have bowled well on this pitch, even the Sri Lankan fast bowlers, who took five wickets. Prasidh Krishna stuck to his natural length. He bowled fast, and you rarely see someone leave Siraj behind,” Mohammad Kaif said on Sony Sports.
Kaif reckons Krishna has bowled better than Mohammed Siraj in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka.
“Siraj is a senior bowler. He has played close to 45 Test matches, and this is Krishna’s ninth Test. However, on this tour, whether it’s pace or effort, I feel Krishna has looked ahead in all aspects in this series. The three wickets he picked up was special bowling, if we talk about this match,” he added.
On the other hand, former Indian Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara said Krishna savored success after he decided to change his angle from over the wicket to round the wicket against the left-handers.
“He got success only when he changed his angle in today’s first session. They made a game plan. After that, he stuck to the short ball. Back-of-length delivery is his speciality, but along with that, he used the bouncer well,” he said.
Pujara added that Krishna varied his length to savor success on the third day’s play.
“That’s why he got two wickets with bouncers, and the one wicket we saw yesterday was from the six-to-eight-meter length, where he bowls more. So his bowling needs to be praised. It was a good spell yesterday, and he also bowled well today. However, he will have to bowl well tomorrow as well,” Pujara observed.
Sri Lanka ended the third day’s play at 265-8.
