Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has predicted that captain Shubman Gill will end his ODI career with 10 double centuries. Gill scored his second double hundred in the 50-over format when he scored an outstanding knock of 233 runs off 133 balls in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Wednesday.
The Indian captain completed his second double century in ODI format off just 117 balls, which is the fastest in the format.
The flamboyant batter also became the second batter to score a double hundred in ODI cricket while chasing after Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Gill’s 223 is the highest individual score in ODI format while chasing, and it is also the highest individual score by the Indian captain in the 50-over format.
“I think he will not stop at two double hundreds. I think he will play at least ten years more in ODIs and I feel he will end with ten double hundreds. He has a wide range of shots. The guy has all the shots. This is why he is scoring runs and has never needed to play the scoop, reverse sweep and such shots. He has a wide range in the V. He is not going to stop. He does not want to take a break and has the hunger to keep playing,” Mohammad Kaif said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Kaif backed Gill to break many more ODI records and get ahead of many greats in the game.
He concluded, “I feel Gill is going to beat a lot of players. He will go ahead of many greats. I can see the hunger in him to score daddy hundreds. He knows that if he wants to get into that list of greats and also carry the responsibility as captain, he has to do big things. He was looking at the bowling while the West Indies were hitting and he was helpless as captain. In the first half, he got disappointment. But the result always comes in the second half. When he came to bat, he showed his mental strength.”
Gill has scored 3712 runs in 68 ODI innings at an average of 65.12.
