Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif believes there is no one better than Yuvraj Singh to guide Abhishek Sharma. Yuvraj has been Sharma’s mentor since a long time and has played an instrumental role in the youngster’s career.
Meanwhile, Sharma scored a blistering knock of 68 runs off just 20 balls to help India chase down 154 runs in 10 overs in the third T20I against the Blackcaps.
The left-hander smashed seven fours and five sixes in his whirlwind knock. The youngster completed his fifty off just 14 balls, the second fastest T20I half-century for India after his mentor Yuvraj Singh, who scored a 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Mohammad Kaif said on his YouTube Channel, “I know that Yuvraj Singh probably only praises him directly or on Twitter, writing about him on social media. But what he actually says is that you played a bad shot there, you should have taken a single, watch two or three balls first. He advises a slightly more conservative style. So Yuvraj Singh is giving good advice, telling him that if you want to play a long innings, watch one or two balls, understand the situation, then play your shot. But this guy sticks to his own game, saying that this is my game plan, this is my role in the team, I have the freedom to play my shots, and I am doing it.”
Kaif drew comparisons between Abhishek Sharma and Yuvraj Singh’s backlift and said they come from the same height.
“At the same time, he also listens to Yuvraj Singh. If you look at Yuvraj Singh’s backlift and Abhishek Sharma’s backlift, they come from the same height because their build is similar. There is probably no one better than Yuvraj Singh to guide him. Both play the same way, both are attacking batsmen, and their bat flow is very similar. I see a lot of similarities between Yuvraj Singh and Abhishek Sharma in their style, approach, backlift, and bat flow. Many aspects of their game match,” he added.
Sharma would look to carry his good form in the T20 World Cup.
