Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif slammed the team’s think tank after India suffered a 0-4 series loss against England. Earlier, India was stunned 0-2 by Ireland as they could not bring their best.
Kaif called out head coach Gautam Gambhir and his support staff for making continuous changes to the playing XI. Sanju Samson was dropped after the first T20I whereas Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was given three games. Samson returned to the team’s final XI in place of Sooryavanshi for the final game of the series.
“There is nothing bad in losing. But it is the way we played, we were nowhere in the game. You look from Ireland till here, we were not there in any game. I want to praise them but there has been no moment like that. How do I praise then? They do not know their best XI. I can’t remember any such management like this before. It is clearly visible with the changes they made overall. It looked like there was some club level match going on where there are changes in every game,” Kaif said in a video on his YouTube channel.
The former UP batter said the trio of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should have played together.
“You should have made a place for Abhishek, Samson, and Vaibhav together in your best XI. Samson and Vaibhav should have played together. Samson played only one game against England are got dropped. The same Samson who hit these English bowlers in the T20 World Cup semifinal. If you had dropped him and he is not there for Zimbabwe, then why did you not play Vaibhav? There have been many mistakes.”
Kaif highlighted that India has been losing consistently under Gautam Gambhir’s tutelage and believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would be disappointed after managing 42 runs in three games.
“Under this management, this is not the first time we have lost like this. We have been losing, be it New Zealand, South Africa. Vaibhav will be disappointed. I understand he could not score in England. It was going to be difficult with the conditions. But if someone tells me he is not worth being part of the team, I will not agree. 750 runs in the IPL is not a fluke. He should have played in Ireland first. You should not give someone a break when they are in their best form,” he expressed.
The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
