India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has put his weight behind Ravindra Jadeja amid the ODI series against New Zealand. Jadeja went wicketless throughout the series but Siraj said it is always a matter of just one wicket for the bowler to feel confident.
The left-arm orthodox spinner hasn’t been at his best in the ODI series against the Kiwis and has failed to create any impact in the middle overs. Jadeja also returned with scores of 4 and 27 in the first two games against the Blackcaps. The veteran spinner returned with figures of 0-41 in six overs he bowled in the third ODI at Indore.
Siraj said via Cricbuzz, “I don’t think there is any concern. It is always about one wicket. The bowling is doing well – once you get that one wicket, you will see a different bowler with a different confidence. I don’t see any concern.”
Siraj said the team’s atmosphere is very good ahead of the third ODI of the series.
“The atmosphere is very good because we are getting a lot of input from the seniors. We won the first match and then played the second, so it feels like a high-pressure situation.”
On the other hand, Daryl Mitchell scored a match-winning knock of 131 runs off just 117 balls in the second ODI against India. Siraj said they had a game plan for him but the right-hander was dropped when he was on 80 by Prasidh Krishna.
“We tried our best to get him out (in Rajkot). We had a game plan for him. As you can see, even a world-class batter can make mistakes. If we had grabbed that opportunity (a catch was dropped), the scenario would have been different. The way he bats against spin, especially in the middle overs – taking singles and doubles – shows that he is thinking clearly and batting with a plan.
“In Rajkot, there wasn’t much dew and the ball was coming nicely onto the bat. Our plan was to get him out as early as possible, and we will try to do the same in this match,” the pacer went on to add.
New Zealand has posted a par score of 337 runs on the board in the third ODI at Indore.
