It has been reported that multiple selectors have raised doubts about Team India’s ODI World Cup 2027 success with Rohit Sharma in the squad. It was earlier reported that Rohit would play his final ODI game at Lord’s but he answered the critics in style.
Rohit scored a magnificent knock of 138 runs off 110 balls in the third ODI at the iconic venue on Sunday as he became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s. However, his efforts went in vain as India could not chase down a gargantuan total of 388 runs and fell short by 27 runs in the end.
The veteran batter scored 17 fours and five sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game.
Rohit has been a consistent performer for India over the years and he has also improved his fitness in the recent past.
According to Dainik Jagran, there is friction between Rohit Sharma and the selectors, which is creating confusion despite BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s official statement regarding Rohit’s future.
“Those running the Indian team absolutely do not want Rohit Sharma to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. During the England tour, one selector had already taken the BCCI’s top brass into confidence on this matter,” the report states.
“Several selectors feel they have been deceived because they believe India cannot win the 2027 ODI World Cup with Rohit around, while some BCCI bigwigs are changing their strategy based on what they see on internet media,” the report adds.
On the other hand, the review of India’s mundane performance on the UK tour, where the visitors lost two T20I series against Ireland and England and also lost the ODI series against the latter, has been delayed.
“It was supposed to take place after the England tour ended, but now the team has arrived in Sri Lanka. According to BCCI sources, the review meeting couldn’t occur due to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s illness. This meeting could happen in the coming days, with head coach Gautam Gambhir possibly joining online,” the report informs.
India will next take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series, starting August 15.
