Mumbai Indians have appointed Robin Uthappa as their batting coach ahead of IPL 2027. Uthappa represented MI in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and he will look to get the best out of the players. This will be Uthappa’s first coaching stint with an IPL team.
Mumbai Indians wrote on their Instagram post, “From being part of our very first season to returning with a wealth of experience! Robbie brings a sharp understanding of the game, great communication, and the clarity to guide youngsters! 💪 Welcome back to the Paltan, Robin! आपला new Batting Coach.”
T Dilip has also joined Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff and he will take over as the fielding coach. Dilip served as India’s fielding coach for nearly five years. He was a part of three ICC title wins – the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026, and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
MI have also appointed Mitchell McClenaghan and Dhawal Kulkarni as bowling coach and development bowling coach respectively. McClenaghan played a key role in three of MI’s title wins – in 2015, 2017 and 2019, taking 71 wickets in 56 matches for the franchise.
The appointment comes after the franchise parted ways with Lasith Malinga, who was the team’s bowling coach since IPL 2024, as well as Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson, the latter of whom served as fielding coach.
In a statement, MI said that Kulkarni will have a year-round role that “will ensure continuity in Mumbai Indians’ performance programme, providing consistent support for player development and talent pool depth.”
Earlier, the five-time champions appointed Kieron Pollard as head coach.
