Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel has revealed that Prithvi Shaw deserved his chance as he has been performing decently in the domestic circuit. Shaw has changed base from Mumbai to Maharashtra and was roped in for INR 75 lakhs in the IPL 2026 mini auction.
Meanwhile, Shaw’s career has been marred by controversies. Furthermore, his form also took a dip, which has put him under pressure at various stages of his career. However, Patel said everyone matures with age and downplayed the fact that Shaw could not handle the fame and money.
Munaf Patel said on Breaking Sports with Vivek Sethia, “I believe a person automatically grows with age; one becomes mature with age. Some things change over time. The people you meet in life matter. When you are surrounded by good people, you tend to do good things. Yes, mistakes have happened, but those were mistakes of age. Many people say that money came at a young age and that is why certain things happened. But a lot of players represent India at 18, play in the IPL as well, and everyone earns money. What really matters is the culture you live in. What is your culture? Who are your friends? What kind of circle do you have? That plays a very important role.”
Shaw has scored 518 runs in six Ranji Trophy matches at an impressive average of 57.56 and Patel said the youngster definitely deserves a second chance in his career.
“Prithvi is not the kind of boy you just give up on and move on from. Someone must be there to stand by him, back him, and support him. He has played here for many years, has performed, and has represented India. Now he has gone back to domestic cricket, changed his state, and is performing again. So somewhere, you have to give him a chance. I believe the Delhi Capitals can give him that chance. They have the strength to say, ‘Why are we letting go of a 24-year-old?’” he added.
Patel added that Shaw has changed his attitude, which is helping him in the domestic circuit.
“There is no question mark on his talent. The only question mark earlier was his attitude, and he has changed that. He has understood it himself. When you are out everywhere for a year, you realize where you stand and what you truly deserve. He has accepted that if he wants to survive here, certain things will not work and certain things will. Otherwise, he is among the best. There is absolutely no issue with his batting.”
Shaw would look to deliver the goods for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026.
