Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik said Mumbai Indians’ players poor form is spreading like a pandemic. The five-time champions have struggled to get going in the ongoing season as they have failed to deliver with both bat and ball.
MI have managed only two wins in nine games and they are reeling in ninth position in the points table, and thus their playoff hopes are hanging by a thin thread. Hardik Pandya’s team suffered an eight-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Saturday, which further took a hit on their playoff chances.
“If you look at MI’s luck, or if you look at MI’s game, it is like a pandemic. Because if you see, there was the Sanju Samson’s catch, which was dropped, Naman Dhir had dropped catches in their last game, this has become like a pattern now. I agree that Sanju Samson was out soon after, but it is like when one person yawns, everyone is yawning. So, something is not working. The campaign is 99.99999% over,” Murali Kartik said on Cricbuzz.
Kartik said he doesn’t see Mumbai Indians turn a corner in the ongoing season.
“They are having a season where whatever they are trying, it is just not working. They have tried to bat first, they tried to play aggressive, they scored so many runs against SRH, they got hit. They are going through such a season that they would want to forget it quickly, and think about what they can do from here to make a turnaround. I don’t see a turnaround happening. I was hopeful before the match, but now, after seeing some of the signs, it won’t happen,” Murali Kartik added.
Mumbai Indians will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Monday.
