Navjot Singh Sidhu backs Rohit Sharma to find a way after poor run in BGT against Australia

Former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu has backed Rohit Sharma to find form despite a poor run in the Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia. After missing the opening Test at Perth due to paternity leave, Rohit returned with scores of 3, 6, 3, 10, and 9 and thus aggregated only 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.20. Because of his poor form, Rohit decided to drop himself in the final Test at the SCG.

Citing former Australia captain Mark Taylor and Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, Sidhu noted that these players made a return to the team despite struggling with their form for a long time.

Rohit has managed a solitary fifty in his last 15 Test innings and thus he hasn’t been at his best in the red-ball version.

Sidhu said on Sports Tak, “The fragrance of old and the exuberance of youth is the best combination. If someone is undergoing a bad form for two months, you can’t delete him. His services are for so long. I know you can’t rest on your laurels, you’ve to refresh them with new ones but you’ve to give allowance.”

“Mark Taylor failed for 1.5 years but persisted, Azharuddin failed, Ganguly failed eight innings and said, ‘I can fail in eight innings but it takes just one innings for me to come back,'” he continued.

The former Indian batter urged Rohit to work on his fitness to get the desired results.

“Rohit will find a way. The only difference between Rohit and Virat is – he needs to work on his fitness. He’s an exceptional player, pure gold, [he] faced some bruises. You only get diamonds from coal fields.

“The man has fallen behind in Tests but smashed three sixes against Starc in the T20 World Cup. He was batting on 90 when his partner was on 10. Did you forget that? [World Cup heroics).”

Rohit will look to turn his form in the ODI format after a forgettable tour of Australia.
