Australian Test team players lauded Virat Kohli while discussing the World Test Championship 2023 final victory in TEST documentary. Australia won their maiden WTC title by beating India by a mammoth margin of 209 runs at the Oval.
Kohli, who has been India’s centerpiece over the years, returned with scores of 14 and 49. The talisman looked good in the second innings but was caught brilliantly by Steven Smith in the slips.
Travis Head scored a magnum opus knock of 163 runs whereas Smith scored 121 to help Australia post 469 runs on the board in the first innings.
Meanwhile, Kohli has an impeccable Test record against Australia. In 25 Test matches against the Aussies, Kohli has amassed 2042 runs at an impressive average of 47.48 with eight centuries. Out of these 25 games, India has come out victorious on nine occasions and Kohli has scored 506 runs at an average of 36.14 in those games.
This is what Australian players said about Virat Kohli:
Pat Cummins: Virat Kohli is the one guy who can chase it down in the fourth innings.
Steve Smith: If you look at people chasing the total, Virat Kohli is up there with the best, if not the best.
Nathan Lyon: He is super competitive and doesn’t give you an inch. No one comes close to him.
Scott Boland: Going into that last day, we still thought that if they got on a roll, Kohli could still pull off that chase.
Justin Langer (Former Australia coach): He’s been a killer against Australia.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also makes an appearance in the video and is heard saying: “When he comes out to bat, Virat makes people around the globe, even the opposition stands up and look. They might not like it but they will watch.”
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle and other Australian journalists also shared words of praise for Virat Kohli on the same platform.
