“Once I am done, I will be gone” – Virat Kohli opens up on his post-retirement plans

India’s talismanic batter Virat Kohli has opened up on his post-retirement plans. Kohli said he won’t be seen for a while after calling it a day on his glorious career. The superstar has been a consistent performer for India over the last 15 years in all three formats of the game.

Kohli has an insatiable hunger for runs and wears his heart on his sleeve. The right-hander has played an instrumental role in the success of the national team and has played at the top of his game.

Kohli is still fit as a fiddle and one expects him to keep going till the next ODI World Cup. The 35-year-old is known to take the bull by its horns and he doesn’t want to have any regrets when he finishes his playing career.

The linchpin said in a video uploaded by RCB on their social media, “I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So I am just working backwards. I don’t want to finish my career thinking ‘oh, what if I have done this on that particular day’ because I can’t keep going on and on forever.”

He added, “So it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won’t. Once I am done, I will be gone, you won’t see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going.”

The former Indian skipper has a plethora of records under his belt and has scored 80 centuries in all three forms of the game.

Kohli has been in sensational form in the ongoing Indian Premier League while opening the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The right-hander has amassed 661 runs in 13 matches at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16 and thus he is the highest run-getter of the season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play their last league stage match of the season against Chennai Super Kings at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
