Former Australian wicket-keeper bat Adam Gilchrist reckons the onus will be on the Pat Cummins-led team to prove their dominance in the home conditions against India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series. India has had their wood on Australia in the last two tours, winning by 2-1 on both occasions.
The visitors have ticked the right boxes as they have come up with a collective effort. In fact, India didn’t have a full-strength team on the previous tour but still, they were able to stun the mighty Australians. The young Indian players were able to grab their opportunity under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane on the previous tour.
“Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India know how to go away and win overseas,” said Gilchrist, speaking to The Times of India
Gilchrist picked Australia to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy but reckons it is going to be a close series.
“Naturally, I’m going to say Australia, hope they get there. But it’s too close to call. It will be a close tussle,” Gilchrist said.
On the other hand, Australian veteran spinner Nathan Lyon recently said that the team will be hungry to win against India as the last two series at home haven’t gone to plan.
“It’s been ten years of unfinished business, it’s been a long time, and I know we’re extremely hungry to turn things around especially here at home,” Lyon said. “Don’t get me wrong, India is an absolute superstar side and extremely challenging but I’m extremely hungry to turn things around and make sure we get that trophy back,” Nathan Lyon told ESPNcricinfo.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
